Are you a true bird lover? What do you think about this feeder? I think this is a wonderful idea! It is fun to be outdoors and watch the birds, but this is the ultimate. You can be sitting in your living room and the birds will come in to your room. Well almost. This way you can see them up close.
The little bird that speaks his name and does acrobatic stunts on tree branches delights all bird watchers. This plump little fellow with the black cap is friendly, and chances are he’s been at your feeder in the winter.
Chickadees look for tree holes, either natural or made by woodpeckers, for their nests. But if a tree is sufficiently soft or rotten, they may make their own holes. A dead birch tree, which is rotten in the center, is an ideal place for a chickadee nest.
Four species of chickadee may be found in nesting boxes. The Black-capped Chickadee or Poecile atricapilla lives in all northern and most middle states as well as in most of Canada. Its black cap and bib, and white cheeks identify it, as does its chick-a-dee-dee-dee call. The Carolina Chickadee or Poecile carolinensis, which looks almost the same, lives in the southeast quarter of the US and has a slightly higher, faster version of the call.

Penguins are a group of aquatic flightless birds living almost exclusively in the Southern Hemisphere . Highly adapted for life in the water, penguins have counter shaded dark and white plumage, and their wings have become flippers. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, squid, and other forms of sealife caught while swimming underwater. They spend about half of their life on land and half in the oceans. Although all penguin species are native to the southern hemisphere, they are not found only in cold climates, such as Antartica. In fact, only a few species of penguin live so far south. Several species are found in the temperate zone, and one species, the Galapagos Penguin, lives near the equator The largest living species is the Emperor Penguin adults average about 3 ft 7 in tall and weigh 75 lb or more. The smallest penguin species is the Little Blue Penguin (also known as the Fairy Penguin), which stands around 16 in tall and weighs 2.2 lb.
How lucky you would be if you lived in a warm climate and could have these birds around your pond?
Birds range in various sizes as well as colors. These Flamingos are rather large and the colors are awesome.
Winter is almost over, but please remember our little feathered friends. They are still in need of our help. If we have fed and housed them over the winter we still need to take care of them. They have become dependant on us and it may be difficult for them to go out on their own in search of food, depending of course where you are and how much snow you still may have.
This may be a good time to clean your houses that are empty, so that they will be ready in the spring with the arrival of new birds.
There really is nothing so exquiste as a bird in flight! Have you ever really watched them? So beautiful. It doesn’t really matter how big or how small they are. They are just so graceful.
They must be very strong to be able to stay in mid air and propel themselves forward. And the distance they fly when they migrate in unbelievable.
Everyone has had birds fly into their backyard. But, if we want them to stay longer we will need to encourage them by adding a few things to the area. Birds love water, so by adding a pond or a birdbath you will be giving them something to drink and a place to play and refresh.
By adding flowering trees and shrubs you will be encouraging them to come for food and refuge. It is trully fun watching them play in the water.
Even if you are not an experienced bird watcher I know you will enjoy this experience. Soon you will be able to identify the birds that will frequent your backyard. Not only will you be able to identify the birds by sight you will also be able to identify by its call or song.
It is such a great experience! Do you know what bird this is?
We have discussed planting a bird garden. What I mean by that is to plant trees, flowers and shrubs that birds will be attracted to.
You plant it and they will come. It is getting harder and harder for birds to find food in the winter. Planting trees and shrubs with berries will not only attract the birds, but it will give them a place to rest while they are in transit
I like this birdhouse. It reminds me of days gone by. But because of the tin roof it really isn’t suitable for the use by birds, but it would sure be a great item to use in an Americana themed sun room or deck.
Most decorative birdhouse can be used for the birds, although many of us think that they are just too beautiful to put outside and tend to use them in our decor.
